L’ E 428 103, in particolare, fu scelta dal Servizio Materiale e Trazione FS nei primi anni sessanta del secolo scorso per la sperimentazione di un carrello portante con moderne boccole a rulli, dai quali ne è scaturito il moderno carrello Ap1110 che ha equipaggiato circa 70 unità delle serie 123\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"\u003e÷\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e242.
